Bio chemistry of blood

In recent years voluminous work has been written on the subject of health of heart and arteries even on internet in blogs many articles appear on this subject. This shows the extent to which people are conscious of heart diseases now. Bloggers and other free lance writers have lime lighter the subjects like stable angina, angina pains, unstable angina, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction and coronary arteries disuse. CAD is most common cause of disability and mortality pertaining to heart diseases. Various risk factors have been studied and researched for heart diseases. These include genetic make up of the patient or his hereditary flux, excess intake of saturated fats, blood lipid abnormalities, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cigarette smoking etc

If we know, monitor and follow the bio chemistry of blood at an early age or primary stage of the formation of atherosclerosis, subsequently coronary artery disease than much damage and harm to the heart can be avoided. The abnormalities are at the base of most of the evil of heart diseases. There is an overwhelming evidence to show that abnormalities due to lipid metabolism and excess intake of saturated fats in the form of meat, eggs, butter and milk play a direct role in patho –physiology of arthrosclerosis and CAD

Now physicians are more and more concentration on lipid profile for monitoring the blood vascular diseases. In the light of latest research on lipid profile and its various constituents of cholesterol ‘it is imperative for the physician and patient to know the exact structure of lipids and cholesterols circulating in blood stream. The single value of total cholesterol or triglycerides is of no clinical significance. These both can be in normal range with raised LDL cholesterol, the real culprit behind all atherosclerotic processes. The health, risk and deleterious condition of heart directly depend on level of LDL cholesterol in the blood stram. The risk of CAD and brain strokes rises progressively with rise in the level of LDL cholesterol. The ratio of LDL cholesterol to LDLcholesterol provides good marker of health of heart and risk. This ratio below 3 is less risk factor. And this ratio above five indicates higher risk. This risk factor is of great significance in early identification of CAD or early onset of arthrosclerosis. Hyper –tryglyceridemia is an independent risk factor for CAD. Elevated triglycerides levels often occur in association with other lipid abnormalities including low level of LDLcholesterol and elevated concentration of lipoproteins

Abnormal lipid metabolism, together with excessive intake of cholesterol and saturated fats, especially when superimposes a per-genetic predisposition initiates the atherosclerosis process. Low density proteins are the major atherosclerotic lipids. In contrast to low density lipoproteins, the high density lipoproteins are protective in nature and assist in the metabolism of LDL. LDL is true marker of progression of CAD. Those families in which there is predisposition to heart diseases or early heart attack below the age of forty should monitor their lipid profile on regular basis.
