Is censorship and locking of social net working websites desirable?

The internet is global network that has revolutionized the lives of people. The world has been reduced to one global village. People remain interconnected with eahchother day and night to share the latest developments in the world over the internet and to express their ideas. The people share their opinions on various matters and listen to the ideas and opinions antagonistic to their own. Thus mutual understanding and friendship is emerging unknown and unparalleled in human history. Internet provides space free of cost to youngsters to express their honest opinions on various matters concerning world matters and areas of utmost concern. The social net working sites are channelizing and directing the unfathomable energies of youth in the right direction. The loggers are expressing their opinions raging from minor subjects to matters of human, health and international concern. A new awakening and consciousness is being created among people through these blogs. Bloggers are writing articles raging from love, sex, religion to political issues.Net working websites and Blogging have gained unimaginable momentum in last few years.

A recent article publishes in “New York Times” about the concerns and comments of Mr. Kapil sibal, the union Minister of Communications and Information Technology., in the cabinet of prime minister Mr. Manmohan Singh ‘ cabinet has sparked of fire and controversy whether the internet based social web sites should be censored or not? Mr. Kapil sibal has expressed his deep sense of sorrow, anguish, and indignation over some user generated content in their blogs over the internet on social working net sites.such as Google, face book and you tube and suggested screening of the material before it is published or overloaded before people find this on the screens of their computers. Though of late Mr. sibal has categorically denied his proposal of pre screening or pre publication moderation of user’s generated offensive and objectionable content. It is said that kapil was upset and indignant over the satirical portrayal of Sonia Gandhi, the congress president, over the face book.

Mr. Kapil sibal’s remarks generated a new controversy about the freedom of speech and expression in the media and over the internet especially on social net working sites. The censorship in any form of the matter to be publishes on the social net working sites is antagonistic to the individualistic freedom of expression and grave threat to personal liberty. The aim of social net working sites is to connect the maximum people with eahchother through love and mutual understanding.. The very idea of Blogging, by providing bloggers free space, is to allow the bloggers-community to express frankly and freely their emotions and and to share and express their honest opinions candidly. If any x rated material or pornographic literature or imagery/iconology is censored than there should be no problem for anybody in civilized society. But if any thing is written against certain government or its working policies and it is to be censored by the concerned authorities; than it tantamount to crushing the personal freedom of the person to express differently and imposingly. Even in parliaments there are oppositions and opposition parties. In democratic set up we should appreciate and welcome healthy opposing and antagonistic opinion and conversation. Pre screening in any form will be grave violation of the personal freedom and liberty of the individual. The very idea of censorship or even “limited control” of social net working websites like Google, you tube, face book, tweet, etc is highly condemnable and deplorable.

The bloggers should also use utter restraint while writing on sensitive issues of society or on honorable political and religious personalities. They should not target any individual personality personally by mocking him or her or writing derogatory and defamatory matter in any form against him or her. We should try to evaluate and appreciate the feelings of other person as a civilized and esteemed member of society. . Bloggers should show deep sense of justice and responsibility while writing blogs. They should bear it in mind that Blogging is not their personal or hereditary property and is subjected to evaluation and moderation not by any individual member but society as a whole. If censorship of social websites is condemnable than the “cyber –bullying” on internet pages by certain vested interests is also not less deplorable.
